Dive Insight:
Delta has made itself the leader of premium travel experiences among carriers. The refresh of Delta One is the airline’s latest effort to court customers willing to pay luxury prices.
“Delta’s fully reimagined experience is rooted in solving real customer needs and desires, with intentionality behind every detail,” Ranjan Goswami, chief marketing and product officer at Delta, said in a prepared statement. “Every investment we make is deliberate and designed to deliver the industry’s most premium end-to-end travel experience.”
The airline’s premium push is paying off, seen in its most recent quarter, and executives are confident in the success of its strategy. Premium revenue grew in the high teens year over year in the quarter.
“Overall, we've seen very strong demand in premium,” Joe Esposito, EVP and chief commercial officer, said on the Q3 2026 earnings call last week. “As we said, as we're growing capacity, 6% to 7%, our loads went up almost 2 points, and fares were going up as well. We weren't discounting fares. So fares continue to move in the right direction and the value that we're offering, I think, has been well received in the marketplace.”
CEO Ed Bastian pointed to the wealth of its customer base, noting that the top 40% of U.S. households, which make up the majority of its customers, are nearly $40 trillion wealthier than a few years ago and prioritizing experiences like travel.
“No airline has invested more intentionally in redefining premium travel,” said Goswami. “From connectivity and personalized entertainment to dedicated security, Porsche tarmac transfers, next-generation aircraft and Delta One dining, every investment is part of a deliberate strategy to deliver the industry’s most consistent and elevated customer experience.”
